From an off-beat, comedic child star, with her own variety show and leading roles in several quirky rom-com hits, to her public meltdown, Amanda Bynes’s irrational, schizophrenic behaviour had ultimately led her towards the initial steps to salvation.

I remember the first time I heard that quirky, high-pitched twang, ushering the hilariously absurd words that came after, I thought, I just found my tv bff! Amanda Bynes was a fictional friend I could always count on for good laughs. Her modern physical comedy comforted me in many ways. In a sense, I felt empathy for someone that did me a solid many times over. But by the time she was posting her deeply disturbing Twitter rants to the world, I had already grown out of the child star actress.

Her recent roles lacked the charm and humor they had once been. Her role as Maryann in Easy A was obscured by Olive, played by Emma Stone. Her slapstick quirkiness seemed old and devolved, as if her comedic light had slowly been burning out. As soon as she completely faded into obscurity, so did my interest.

However, after watching her very first interview since her emotional circus fiasco 5 years ago, I realized how much this child star, who had probably been working non-stop for well over a decade, finally needed a break, as any normal human being would. It was her zombie-like tone— a character straight from the flick GET OUT—that struck a cord with me.  After she admitted she was on meds, the Scorpio sleuth in me wanted to get to the bottom of all it. I began to watch pieces that posted the extremity of her social tweets and rants, read old news clipping chronicling her unsettling behaviour, while simultaneously looking into how it all fit into her chart, the planets involved and transits that triggered events leading to her disgrace. Here’s what I found.

Often playing a plethora of characters, she had the talent for transforming into different views and personalities, fitting for a Gemini Ascendant. The Gemini mission is to learn, communicate and interact. They’re considered talkative and charming due to their adaptable nature. Excelling in social situations, they are curious to a fault and intuitively know what a person wants to hear, even to their own damaging. Gemini’s are quite impressionable—this is why she can imitate personas so well. Absorbing behaviour so well that they’re often susceptible to spin out of their centre. Gemini’s are also people pleasers. For Bynes, this came in the form of entertainment, as well as, her 7th house of relationships, where the authority figure Saturn sits in the sign of Sagittarius.

Saturn in Sagittarius meant that she had limited foresight—may be conservative ones, passed down from her manager father, and had yet to establish her own beliefs, ones that would ground her during hard decisions or times of confusion. The future was likely always set for her by an authority figure. In many clips I’ve watched during her demise, it was evident that her parents had full control over her money, thus her life and career. Being managed by her father since the beginning of her career—1996 to 2007. Her grand plans for herself had yet to be her own, her inner truth bringer, the archer, was being held and controlled by Saturn via her parents.

The 7th house goes beyond personal relationships. Her agents, publicist and others on her team also had control of her career path. Though she wanted to shed her Nickelodeon image, she continued to be type-casted. She wanted more adult roles, often comparing herself to Nickelodeon fellow star Lindsay Lohan who was initially successful at making the switch. It must have been a confusing time for her, unable to get the work she was used to having and then being shunned from the roles she wanted. At this point Saturn was transiting her house of creativity. Not only were her roles being limited, her creative relationships as well, since Libra is at the cusp of her 5th. From what it seems, she probably knew that it was time for some changes, in herself and her career(Sun in Aries + 5th house matters) but without the arrow vision of the archer, she continued to pendulum from one option to the other.

As the ruler of Libra and as a planet dictating a persons values, a planet like Venus would have helped ground her decisions, but the goddess of love was tucked away in the 12th house of hidden things. Her sense of fulfillment and core values was not clear. This explains many things about Bynes. First of all, she was not seen as sexy, instead as a dorky, drama queen actor. Even when she attempted to break into that image—Maxim spreads, etc.. she still wasn’t convincing studios. Coupled with her Mars in Capricorn(control Mars energy), the sexual nature that she promoted never manifested into her career.

There was also the case with her aspirations as a fashion designer. Venus rules beauty and fashion. She mentioned the desire to be in the industry the first time she was on the Howie Mendal show in 2002. Then, again in her first interview after her meltdown. It’s a wonder why she never had a clothing line like most of her female peer actors who used their fame to milk the fashion industry.

Another way Venus in the hazy house says something about Bynes comes in the form of her Tourettes-like sexual declarations she made on social media about Drake. “I want Drake to murder my Vagina.” She also blurted out and then quickly deleted many beauty insults toward other celebrities. These rants, she admitted was from a drug induce state. Since the 12th house is our subconsciousness, its content usually has free rein when it’s stimulated by intoxicants. It’s like verbal diarrhea when you’ve got too much alcohol in you.

The 12th house is mysterious house and one tends to be uncertain or even have no idea about the contents of that house until it’s triggered. Which was happening when Saturn went into Libra. The distraction of her Gemini roles were thinning, and the comfort of being an Aries Sun child star was being inspected for things that weren’t working any longer.

But if she had been denying her desires or continued to suppress the evolving nature of her individuality, what was about to come was going to force her to confront just that. By 2012, Saturn was getting ready to move into her sixth house of work and it was only a matter of time until it got into the dark depths of Scorpio. Saturn in Libra may have tested relationships, but the sweep to the life she had known for most of her career was about to be gutted. To make matters more severe, purging came as a double whammy for Bynes, since Pluto sat smirking in her 6th. Wow, talk about intensity. Scorpio got down and dirty all right. This was the public meltdown the world witness. She divulged her deepest and darkest secrets. It was one irrational behaviour after another. It was obvious how much she was holding back, how much rot there was in her 6th house and how much she needed to finally deal with her 6th house matters, as it was connected to her Sun in Aries individuality, her Mars in Capricorn—her true desires and how it didn’t connect to Saturn in her 7th house any longer.

Whether it was a cry for help or the unleashing of personal monsters on those who denied her desire of authentic expression—including herself, the restrictions were blasted into oblivion. The world she had known most of her life was being destroyed and she had been right at the front lines for it. From DUI’s to bouts with substances, she was scrapping off her dutiful, squeaky clean Mars in Capricorn image. All was becoming dust. It was very much a Scorpio energy—to the death. But in order to rise from the destruction, one needs to know their core. Whether or not she had even an idea of this—which she likely had, since she wanted to exit the acting industry—this is what she she needed the most. Sadly, I don’t think she was able to locate it after the ashes.  As mentioned, her own values and belief systems  were likely not formed yet. With nothing to ground her or no one to help—some of her social media rants covered her trust issues with her friends and others around her. Having all these odds against her, the recipe to escape into drugs was easy to cook up. If she was already adrift, drugs for a Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Pisces characteristic must have washed her out into a roaring sea, unable to swim the turbulent currents without the skills and equipment to save her life, she sunk into the delusional waters of her mind.

Let’s just say she has the astrological formula to become susceptible to certain mental illnesses.

1)The dual personality which she cultivated into quite a few in her head.

2)Saturn in Sagittarius, not having her own inner beliefs to guide her during a tsunami mental catastrophe.

3)Mars in Capricorn apparently contribute to this since Mars is our action-oriented planet. Despite it’s exaltation, it’s supposed to be about the person and what one wants, attaining these desires aggressively, but since its in Capricorn in an introverted sign and a sign full of obligations, true desires could be buried.

4)Mercury(her ruling planet) conjunct Jupiter in Pisces makes for a dreamscape reality. People with this placement have a hard time distinguishing reality from fiction. Mars in Capricorn and Saturn in her 7th house may have structured her for a while, but as soon as those restrictions were blown out and induced by altering states, so was the division between reality and fantasy.

5)And then there’s the 12th house of spirituality and her subconsciousness. A very important house she likely hadn’t a chance to focus on, out of the duty to the opposite 6th house of work. Her Venus being there, blurred her from the currents of her heart, distancing her  from her self-values.

The mysterious 12th house is where she needed to go to collect herself. The whole catastrophe in her opposite 6th house made her sick and eventually led her to become institutionalize. All very much necessary for Bynes since her North Node of soul destiny sits on top of her 12th house cusp. More of a reason to search for the contents of the mysterious house, in her case it is her core values to help build the new structure she has been forced to realize once Saturn hit her South Node(things that we need to shed) siting on her 6th.

After she went into rehab, she was also about to be confronted with a Saturn return. A painful process, but again necessary to build a new belief system, one established by her growing adult self, in her work, in her 7th house and other areas strongly effected by her Saturn in Sag return, so to ideally clear space for the values she seems to finally be possessing.

In her first and recent interview since her breakdown, as mentioned, she reveals that she is now taking fashion classes, but has plans to act again. She may not be entirely grasping what she truly wants, but who knows maybe she can do both, finally. Despite the obvious dark moments still looming over with her medicated state, she will probably never be the same person who cracked me up with her absurdist comedy. That’s okay, I’m just happy that my old friend is now leading a path to self-satisfaction.
