Dating A Leo: What to expect; Why they may not be for you, but what can ultimately make them a great partner

Key Points:
- General Leo Energy
- What their Rising sign reveal
- The importance of their Moon
- How their Venus operates
- How their Mars energy is mixed in
- What key houses 7th, 8th and 5th reveal
The warmth of the Sun is best expressed in the sign it rules, Leo. The bright rays, its life-giving force, inherently resonates with the qualities of Leo. On high vibration, the energy of Leo shines warmth and light to others through inspiration and charisma. The energy is magnetic, radiating qualities of confidence, self-possession and pride. You are likely attracted to them for the same reason.
Entertainers and performers usually have strong Leo energy and/or 5th House qualities. They love to bask in the spotlight to express their unique flare. The motivation or hunger is to capture the praise and adoration of an audience. It is the Leo energy that sets fire to the rain. They can uplift others with their confidence. Their spark can light the path down life’s dark tunnels, even if it is just for a moment. Life’s boosters, films and performers can take you away from your own mundaneness and troubles. Leo energy can charge your spirit and heart in hope.
Red Flags
Performers aren’t there for you personally. They spark hope in the way that a star shines bright above us without any cue to do so. It is how they exist, detached and distant. In that sense, one can often feel a deep disconnect being around a Leo. When it comes to love, the flow can feel one-sided, a direction mainly toward them.
Their scorching heat can often burn and deplete you and the relationship into hydration. Not only are they prideful, but they may take the spotlight selfishly. The shining energy is only good with sitting backstage if their Sun(or any Leo planet) is in a hidden house. But don’t get it twisted, the position doesn’t remove the inherent desire for attention. Just not as pronounced; its low-key expression is on a personal level.
If you are part of the comforts and privacy of their inner world, they will crave it from you. If you’re unwilling to give them the spotlight or, at the least, show them praise to feed their fire, I’d reconsider getting too deeply involved. The glitz and glamour can rust into desperate pleas for attention.
The Leo energy can become polarized, involving the health of their ego. A pull that happens between the ego and heart. When they are working purely on ego, there is no space for reciprocation. The ratio of pride, power and lust for attention take the throne. When they work in balance with the heart, you feel their warmth radiate, inspiring hope and love. In showing their loyalty to you, you feel valued.
One way to tell is if you are a co-star in the stage performance of your relationship. If you’re constantly the audience or worse, their reared fan and the reaction is unsupportive when you try to step up on stage to join them in the spotlight or to bask in your own, they are working with their ego, which will eventually burn you to the ground along with the relationship.
They are meant to shine as the centre of attention. How they flare in this light, all depends on the vibrational level.
What they need most: Support
What they won’t tolerate: Disrespect
Weakest point: Pride
Strength: Their child-like spirit and warmth that is infectious wherever they go.
The difference between a feminine and masculine Leo
Dating a Leo man and woman is a different experience. In Astrology, we can look to planets for compatibility when looking for a companion. Aside from Mercury, whose considered for its neutral gender qualities, each natal cosmic body represents feminine or masculine qualities.
For example, Venus can tell us about our feminine qualities. In a woman’s chart, we see this in her love nature and definition of beauty. A man’s chart shows the type of woman he is attracted to, on top of his own likes and dislikes. This can punctuate his reciprocal nature or enforce further masculine aggression.
Just as a planet is assigned a specific gender trait, so are the signs. The signs can therefore change the quality of a planet into a balance. Mars is the masculine quality of our personality. A Mars in Libra intensity is strategic and won’t naturally act on impulse, whereas Mars in Leo will likely act first and think later.
Rising Sign
You know a Leo rising by the way they enter a room, into your life. On some level or another, they will noticeably sweep into the scene. To them, life is a stage, and things should be done in a big way. An impression a Rising Leo will give you is his/her radiating confidence. Just like the sun, they shine and beam in attraction. Under the inherent belief of their own importance, they aren’t afraid to step up and give their mind to a subject. With their physical attributes usually attracting attention, by default, they project a self-possessed charm.
The downfall is that they hog the space and are blinded by their need to shine and feed their voracious hunger for the spotlight. Working on lower vibration, they are self-involved and lack self-awareness. The imbalance, no doubt, can become problematic in a relationship. It can play out in a black-and-white perspective, where they must always “front”, working solely from the surface level and never allowing for vulnerability to be felt or opinions(help) to be considered(pride). To get their attention requires being on the same wavelength, showing them you are just as worthy to be heard and seen. In other words, confidence attracts confidence.
Moon
If you’ve gotten past their Rising sign, whether in Leo or any other sign, you’re being shown their Moon, which likely means a comfort level established. The Luminary reveals our needs and preference for nourishment, how we feel safe, and the environment set to reach that.
A Moon in Leo is someone that is comfortable or takes comfort in the spirit of the starlet who has been conditioned to believe they are quite important–kingly. Deeply wired to feel their self-importance, they feel happy, safe and cared for when watered in the light to shine under their unique identity. A passionate Moon that requires much attention and a great deal of creative expression and praise, a good compatibility with a Leo is someone that doesn’t mind a few emotional theatrics.
The Moon in astrology also represents our mother, how she reared us and how we ourselves will mother, if at all. The key to supporting a Leo Moon is with the spirit of play, adding a sparkle of inspiration into the exchange while giving them the space to express their colourful emotions. You’re entering an intimate world of reactive moods, someone possessing strong feelings and sticking to them.
In the same note, a Leo Moon is inherently fun-loving. They are the entertainers and, by default, see you as part of the audience, if not the stage crew. The best way to think about it is having VIP access for life in an entertainingly glamourous and star-staged show.
The Red Flags
What to look out for is entitlement. A Leo Moon primarily takes pride in sharing and expressing emotions and is loyal to those within their royal kingdom, which becomes an expectation for others to act accordingly. Leo energy is outward. They can take the act of withholding or not being forthcoming as deceit and a sign of disloyalty. Sharing your wisdom of light can decrease the voltage of high expectations. When a Leo Moon rides on higher expression, they recognize your unique starlet quality and the right to express it.
Venus
Venus in the chart is what we value. Our preferences and our individual expression of beauty. For a woman, it is her beauty, how she defines it. In a man, it is what he finds beautiful in a partner. It is also the way he expresses his feminine side. A Venus Leo is an expression of self-assurance, proud of what they have. They are an outward expression of beauty. A Venus Leo female attracts in having the confidence and pride to express her unique beauty, while a Venus Leo man will be attracted to the same qualities. A Venus Leo radiates in power.
The highest expression of a Venus Leo is her sense of self-pride generated from her heart. She possesses a strength of self-worth. If you possess the same qualities and a sense of respect, loyalty will be given in return. In its lowest expression, arrogance and self-righteousness can play out, a kind of god-complex behaviour to a point where no one is worthy or can match her/his level of greatness. The fixation or black-and-white perspective, in fact, is an expression of insecurity for fear of losing their tightly held high status.
Physical and creative activity is at the heart of a Venus Leo. The spirit of adventure burns within. Channelled in the right direction, they can be a force of nature. It is what keeps the flames alive to keep other parts of their lives fuelled. Without it, their spark for life can slowly dwindle, shutting down their purpose to shine and grow.
Mars
Mar is our spirit and actions to get what we want and achieve our desires. The sign reveals the manner in which we do it and whether or not we are aggressive or less so in our pursuit. What we are willing to fight for shows in the House in which Mars sits. It is the function of life where we put in our efforts and energy.
Mars energy is strong in fire signs. It burns in spirit and force. In Leo, pride runs down the sheath of their proverbial sword. They will defend and honour what they want and desire, including you. Stick with them long enough, and they will show you solid affection, romantic grand gestures. Once they are fixed on you, you are their pursuit, with whom they will work to create a kingdom.
Mars being the force of life, is our regenerative power and represents our sexual needs. Mars in Leo will have potent energy in the bedroom. One they will consider part of their creative expression. The fiery Leo may burn in their sexual desire constantly but lose steam in the long run unless continual creative sparks keep the coals red. The Sun and Mars combination will desire nuance occasionally but will be steady once it has found something he/she enjoys sharing with you.
The Downfall
Mars in Leo can be overaggressive or act selfishly. They may burn in a light only sparked for their own ends. Expending their fiery energy is a must. As mentioned, they need creative outlets or physical activity to release the high voltage they continually and quickly generate.
The Key Houses
7th House—with Aquarius at the cusp, a fixed axis will want a commitment. Even if it is not initially, this is the goal. Once found, they will stick to a person and commit as long as the relationship expands and evolves.
8th House is our deepest desires, who we are on an intimate level—shows our compatible nature in that sense. Pisces at the cusp create a deep need for an emotional connection to explore their imaginative realm in bed. They will take you to all corners of the world or want to be taken there. Their exxstacy is about finding a sense of tranquillity in their private life. They will deeply desire someone to create bliss and merge with them beyond the bodily senses.
5th House–Less committed than the 7th or 8th House, it is the adventurous, spirited and romantic part of the relationship. Part of the honeymoon phase, passing and growing from it, then eventually sharing the functions of this play house will create and secure a lighter bond that balances the pressure and seriousness of commitment. In essence, there is the inherent sense of having fun together. If Sagittarius is at the cusp, downtime will be all about adventures. It’s a fellow fire sign and will look to have various activities in which both of you can engage and enjoy.
