Progressed Venus in the Natal Chart:Was everything leading up to this progression?
I have a Venus in Scorpio natally, and anyone who knows enough about astrology knows that Venus isn’t the most comfortable placement here. She can’t fully expand love in the way she—or we—are meant to. Venus, the goddess of beauty, relationships, pleasure, and the finer things in life, when she’s at her best (usually in Libra, Taurus, or Pisces), is like velvety chocolate melting in your mouth. It sits right, melts softly into your life, and tastes so goooooood. But when she is in her fall or detriment (Venus Scorpio), her comfort level is compromised—like hard candy: sour to the taste and an awkward bite.
I remember having a conversation with a co-worker—for reference, I had an innocent crush on him (as did every female we worked with) because he was easy on the eyes, gave off nice-guy vibes, and was quite dreamy in that Venusian, silky way that makes you want to melt into him and believe the rest of your life would be that much sweeter. We got onto the topic of love and how it naturally expands, referencing the movie Her and how the AI Samantha, voiced by Scar Jo, expresses this idea to the main character played by Joaquin Phoenix.
You see, to me, with a Scorpio Venus, that was a confusing concept. But the moment it entered my awareness, I felt a subtle shift in my notions of love and realized I had been missing something the entire time. It was further emphasized by the fact that I was sharing this idea with someone who embodied that nuance so effortlessly.
That moment became the launch point for a journey toward a deeper understanding of Taurus and Libra energy—two signs that had once felt foreign to me. If I met strong Taureans or Librians, there was always something that never quite gelled.
It’s funny how life points you in certain directions.
How sometimes things shift gradually through awareness, and other times you’re meant to look back and trace how the changes occurred.
For this change, I’m glad I was fully aware of it. But then again, that’s Venus for you. I was diverging from decades-long struggles with my Venusian relationship patterns—why I couldn’t fully allow my heart to be open to others. To be clear, I have opened my heart many times, often to my disappointment. My heart has been broken, and I have also broken many hearts. In essence, I was self-perpetuating my Venus path. I deeply did not trust people. I won’t go into the reasons (I fully know why—did I mention I have a Rx Venus too?), but this post isn’t about that; it’s about Venus’s forward motion.
Progressed Venus—or any progressed planet—is about evolution. You evolve through the qualities of that planet as it moves through signs. During this in-between phase, this new concept of Venusian love and relational pleasure sat at the forefront of my mind—and therefore my life—because thoughts are vehicles for experience.
I began meeting more people with strong Libra or Taurus signatures. Maybe I allowed more of that energy into my experience. Whatever it was, I found something beautiful, charming, liberating, and calming—deeply Venusian. Their energy was delightful in its own way.
I met a girl I traveled with in France, and she let me stay with her for a few weeks. I later learned she had Venus in Taurus, amplified by strong Piscean energy. What stood out was her ritualized relationship with pleasure and comfort while traveling.
“I like to buy flowers wherever I’m staying. It makes it my home,” she said as she added water to the vase.
How Taurus Venus is that?
My Scorpio Venus has always been avoidant of flowers—because they die. I went through a process: from not wanting to look at them, to acceptance, to eventually seeing the beauty in the decay. How Scorpio Venus is that?
Back to my point. Not only did she exemplify the beauty of Taurus Venus, but she also revealed how present they can be—how the little pleasures are what truly make them happy. Her flowers lasted a few days before wilting. I’ll admit, it still bothered me, but less so. I learned to take pleasure in my friend’s enjoyment of the superficial and the calm it brought her. I adopted a ritual of my own because of it—something that gave my transient life a sense of home, beauty, and comfort.
I started noticing more Libras, studying them—especially one who had always been in my social orbit but whom I didn’t naturally gravitate toward. She has a Libra Sun and, by definition, Libra in her mannerisms. There was a calming quality in the way she spoke—as if the juices in her mouth were made of that same velvety chocolate smoothness. She conveyed fairness without judgment. She was charismatic, always wanting to appease and to be seen favorably. She carried an essence of beauty; her energy flowed effortlessly between receiving and giving.
There were others I met with that same calming frequency. I wanted to understand it. I met more, learned more, and was schooled in what most Libra energy shares—an ability to know their boundaries at times and struggle with them at others.
Each of them, with their unique charts, shared this capacity for reciprocation. What I’ve come to love about the Libras in my life is their mastery of conversation—my cup of tea as a Gemini Rising. They articulate words as if their vocal cords were strung with harp strings.
The Taurus artistic way of being.
I grew close to two individuals whose voices could belong to a choir of angels. Both shared a deep love and knowledge of music and refined art. Each appreciated symmetry and visual beauty almost to a superficial degree—so much so that at times it made me wonder how we were even friends. As much as I love artistic expression, I’ve always veered past classical Renaissance works, finding them boring and pretentious. I need a twist in expression—something that exemplifies authenticity rather than regurgitation. As a trained artist, I’m drawn to creations born from the unusual and the imaginative.
Yet I also formed a close friendship with a woman who was averse to my perceived perversion of art and beauty. She has a Libra Moon with Venus in Virgo. She was devoted to symmetry and order. She couldn’t stand vulgarity, just as I couldn’t understand how beauty could be defined by mirroring reality. Ten years into our friendship, that dynamic has shifted drastically.
I couldn’t help but feel I was being gently massaged into Venusian sensibility.
What did this reveal about me and my relationship with the world?
Venus represents our relationship to reality—through the pleasures we seek, the tangible experiences we value, the relationships we form, and how we enjoy who we are.
Once I integrated my opposite, I understood their concept of beauty and my own relationship to it, which—ironically—reinforced my own way of expressing Venus as a Scorpio.
Like my Libra Sun friend, who is fair and unbiased, I’ve learned to flow with differences in others. The beauty lies in seeing both sides.
I’ve also learned to take pleasure in the tangible—especially because it’s fleeting. That impermanence was precisely why I once avoided it. Scorpio attachment wants to keep things forever, fearing change—especially in love and relationships.
Taurus, often labeled selfish, can instead be understood as self-sufficient. They can be alone. They move at a steady pace. They know how to entertain themselves. Daily pleasures are abundant. In my youth, I constantly craved companionship—friends, lovers, always someone nearby. I would seesaw between needing solitude and feeling restless when I had it.
Through Taurus, I learned how to hold both. I learned that to be okay with just being, I must find pleasure in the present—in the small moments.
Recently, I read a phrase describing the Taurus–Scorpio polarity: Taurus takes comfort in fullness, consumption, and the tangible. Scorpio takes comfort in restraint, emptiness, and longing. It rang deeply true. Something clicked.
It clarified so much about my existence. Understanding the spectrum now allows me to calibrate it—to create more balance in my life.
Beauty is everywhere; you just have to be present for it.
So, back to my progressed Venus.
It has now moved into my 6th house after spending the last four decades in my 5th—and the difference is profound. I swear I felt the shift the very day it changed houses. I feel less attached. Less consumed by 5th-house matters—the drama of it all. Fun, excitement, and creation had been my lifeblood since toddlerhood. While still part of my signature, I now see it from a wider perspective.
Progressed Venus in My 6th House
My body craves work. I love refining things—Virgo, 6th-house style. I genuinely enjoy my daily tasks. I already have natal Mars and Mercury in the 6th. I enjoy improvement (Mercury) and momentum (Mars). But sincere pleasure? This is next level.
I feel I’ve learned the necessary Venus lessons that have liberated me into presence, into loving the work I do now. There are still chapters ahead: Venus will progress into Sagittarius in about five years—the ultimate carefree Venus—and I can already feel myself being shaped toward that frequency.
I don’t worry anymore. I’m less attached. I don’t feel the need to control everything, Marcus Aurelius–style, a philosophy I adopted years ago. My mind and actions have always been Sagittarian—nomadic and open—and now my Scorpio heart is following.
I do wonder if this is simply part of aging. But the refinement, the grace of it all, feels like something else entirely.
