R.Kelly Birth Chart Reading: From a Capricorn Controlling Sun Expressed in his Double Gemini Face to how his Natal Venus & Jupiter, 8th and 12th house activity reflect his deviant behaviour and desires.

Taking on a neutral lens, and to end the Capricorn Season, I’ve done a read on Capricorn dominant R. Kelly. The R & B star currently behind bars awaiting trial for sexual abuse and sex trafficking allegations made by numerous women, including his live-in girlfriends.

Born Robert Sylvester Kelly, the Fool Tarot Card comes to mind when first glancing his natal chart. As the first major Arcana, it is given the number zero; thus, is about new beginnings and exciting adventures, a free-spirit, someone without a care in the world. The danger being, a lack of awareness, chaos, as the figure stands right at the edge of the precipice, not seeing the fall that he is about to take.

It all starts with the sign of Kelly’s Ascendent in Gemini and the critical degree it falls on, which is also at zero. Think of it as a new born baby, whose reflexes are all immediate and physical, having basic desires. The first house is about first impressions, how one is seen or wants to be seen based one on one contact. It is the door we come out of to navigate the world, while the sign says much about the experience we have once we step out of it. Having it in the first degree means it is through the lens of someone immature, and though full of fresh energy, there’s a tendency to lack consideration for others. Unmoderated moods, a baby wants what it wants and with Gemini colouring it, its curiosity, interactions with others drive the experience. The 1st house can also reveal our experiences growing up. R. Kelly suffered sexual abuse during his childhood. Something to note, as we explore it further with Pluto later.

What can set him on a low vibrational path is his combust or weakened ruling planet, Mercury. When a planet is combust it is invisible, its qualities obscured by the closeness it was to the Sun when the native was born. The way Kelly processes information is not only infant-like and with innocence, his beginnings had no outlet for self-expression(which is so important for airy Gemini’s!) It also denotes the strained relationship he had with his father(The Sun in the 8th) and his quiet nature, as described in the documentary Surviving R.Kelly. But the Gemini mind is never quiet. Active, it can circle in incessant thoughts. The natural air energy in him would have had to go somewhere in order to cope.

Mercury is in Capricorn and found in the 7th house, affecting his Saturn and his 10th house, along with Venus and the sign it rules Libra. When there is trauma, and it is suppressed, a Gemini’s way of coping is usually by compartmentalizing. This is when the twins split. In other words a split in ego.

There is the dutiful, respectable face and then there is the hidden, darker side. One of them represents his Saturn in Pisces obligations to the world, his career and music—at which he’s been successful, considering his fame and fortune. Saturn being in the 10th house, a place he rules, an energy that will do anything to keep face and uphold a reputation. It is a very strong placement for Kelly. This is a sign symbolized by government, those that rule, monarchy, and politicians, giving him a natural streak of authority.

Then there’s the infant side, the one that usually carries all the trauma, reflecting the lower currents ridden. This is the side that is projected in the sign of Taurus, in the planet Venus, as well as the 7th house. Venus tenants the 8th house, the area of trauma, deep secrets and past hurts, which will also be connected to Pluto, the natural ruler of the 8th.

This is when things get interesting and dark.

If his first house is one of curiosity, innocence coloured in obscured ideas, then his second house, the house of pleasure, what he seeks to get that pleasure, reflects that rickety launch point. However, how he shapes his values, self-worth is determined by Jupiter in Leo, the planet that tenants his 2nd house. Guess what degree it falls on? Another 0 degree. Another Fools energy!

Jupiter is how we assimilate information, and the experiences which shape our moral code. With Jupiter in the 0 degree, the expression can lack necessary wisdom. The tendency is to carry experiences through a narrow tunnel of perception, turning it into naive forms of belief. As a proud sign, if one were to question his beliefs, likely one would feel the wrath of the Lion. To add to the layer, Leo is a fixed sign. Jupiter not only is our beliefs but it expands the sign it is in, for better or worse. What Kelly believes is likely set in stone. Hard to persuade him otherwise. This can also speak of a grandiose ego, fed to him or assimilated through his own experiences, which we would find in his Sun energy, the same one that has obscured his life force, gravitas.

As mentioned, what we experience in life, we assimilate through the understanding of Jupiter and in the sign it is in. His father was absent (Sun in 8th house) Mercury combust or obscured by Sun energy conjunct his 8th house. Mercury is also our immediate environment and siblings. The king will get what he wants, removed from the consequences of his actions.

The darker side to Leo is functioning solely on ego. The lower vibrating energy of Capricorn is control. With his Sun lacking the natural vitality it seeks during childhood and his Mercury sketched in darker shades of experiences, Kelly can require ample compensation by acts of control, dominance and entitlement (from lack of it earlier in his life). This also speaks for his 8th house matters, the pleasures he seeks, since his Sun and Mercury in Capricorn tenant that house.  His kingly qualities, along with his royal appetite are strongly accentuated. (There are a string of reports of Kelly paying off the law and victims to silence the allegations made about him.

To note, the controlling Capricorn energy usually plays out as a tyrannical micro-managing type. On the documentary “Surviving R. Kelly”, one of the common threads that the women shared about his behaviour was his control over every detail of their lives. What they ate, when they could speak, etc..

Keeping that in mind, his beliefs, which is connected to his values and physical pleasures, has started off on soiled, tainted grounds. This carries onto the ruler of the house, the planet of relationship, Venus, which happens to be opposite Jupiter. The challenges involved can mean extremes from one side to the other, indulgences of desire, wanting more and never feeling like anything is enough.  Taurus is in the hidden house of the 12th, satisfaction can be vague, elusive and values can be confusing and unrealistic. A sign of trouble for R. Kelly because the combination is a void he can only start to understand through awareness. However, being in the tricky 12th, it is never straightforward.

Venus being in the 8th house of drama means love, desires, values will constantly be in flux. Quaking within until he digs deep enough to find the source of trouble, to confront the truth of the matter. Venus being in Aquarius, the sign not known to look into the past or for self-reflection. The energy looks outward and beyond. As a fixed sign, it can be hard to change ones values, the way one gets pleasure, and how one approaches relationships. Note, that this is a 3rd layer of rigid energy within the singer-songwriter.  Kellys’ Venus is afflicted in the 8th house. A low tune in the dark house can have a skewed pov about the intimate ways of relating. Likely, having an affinity or currency for the shadow and taboo side of intercourse, pleasures kept under wraps in the 8th house of secrets. The performer was accused of performing golden showers to a minor on Feb 2002.

If we look to his Mars, his action, will and desire planet, it is in Libra, in its detriment. Another weakened part of his chart. Mars is impulsive, action-oriented, a fierce warrior. Held in by thought and the scales of actions, it can get frustrated. It can be a see-sawing of desire, morally weighed on one side and the other, pure carnal desire. Mars also happens to sit in the 5th house of sex, romance, pleasure and… children!

There are two layers involved with the action planet in the 5th house:

One, being that it is the house of Leo, and is connected to his immature beliefs in Jupiter in Leo and his egotistical development through his Sun in Capricorn (and to a degree, Mercury childhood sufferings). Again, this area of life shows it is bruised and compensated for by expressing the negative end of the spectrum. He is the King and he will do what he wants!

The second being, Mars in the 5th house is very sexually oriented and hungry. Non-stop desire for sex. A sexual beast, who can be creative in that department. Whether or not the games were played innocently, there is a playful nature with sexual partners. Mars is also afflicted here with a square to both the Sun and Mercury. When there is tension between Mercury and Mars, it can cause impatience, irritability and with the Sun involved, it can mean if the desires are unfulfilled, the response can be that of a bratty child. The configuration can also heighten a sense of entitlement.  Also, as the house of children, it can even denote a desire for children. He was illegally married to fellow musician Aaliyah, who, at the time was 15 years old, while he was 27.

When it comes to relating through his 7th house, he can be sweet and charming, even charismatic and generous, with his moon in Sagittarius, also in his 7th house. Yet, he also has the tendency to get his way, by playing into people’s sensitivity (intuitive Moon). Additionally, it is in a philosophical and explorative sign.  Again, another indication for a kingly belief and appetite for Venus things like, pleasures and relationships. Sag in his 7th gives him an affinity to create a harem. It’s no secret he had many other women outside of his wife, Drea.

How he approaches his harems can be on a twisted, dark road. His Moon in Sag makes squares to Saturn, Uranus, Pluto and an opposition to his ascendent. Another indication of contention or split between his identity, how he wants to experience the world(first house) and the relationship he seeks. His own views versus the emotions(the moon) of others. With Jupiter in 2nd house and ruler of his 5th house, his beliefs can be one sided, self-centred when it comes to the relationship he has with others, supporting his nature to dominate others once again. As mentioned, one of the dots that connect the women’s stories is their forced submission to his dominating ways, along with the consequences if they had not complied. What he identifies with, his soul identity is through the lens of Capricorn, which is strongly associated with tradition, respect and patriarchy.

What we project unconsciously usually originates from the turmoils of the past.

This can all be spewed up by the health of his foundation. Interestingly enough, it is the area of life where Pluto sits, along with Uranus in Virgo. I sigh at this because from the experience and materials I have gathered in the past about Pluto in the 4th house is far from easy or bearable, filled with constant crisis and can be shadowed in so much pain and trauma. The placement also indicates abuse, specifically of a sexual nature. Uranus in Virgo can periodically add further instability and turbulence in the place that should inherently be of comfort.

The 4th is the root of our being, where we come from and with Pluto there it can be a scary place to be. I look at it as a swamp, waters mired in so much guck from childhood, it’s a place likely avoided. An eerie and dark environment, and the shadows that lurk there can sometimes have one run away for good, ultimately bringing one out of touch with this part of themselves. But the further one runs, the bigger those troubles get and the more control it can have over the individual— on a subconscious(Pluto) level.  With Kelly, it’s the deep wounds and scars of his childhood, the abuse and trauma he’s had to endure and internalize throughout the decades.

Pluto also makes a square to the ruler of that house, to his Moon in Sagittarius. This can cause intense, extreme emotions when activated, coming from nowhere—as it would seem. Deep scars aggravated, which always touches on the wounds of the past. One that can shake you to the core, causing further avoidance and distrust to the areas of life it is happening to. For Kelly, it’s his values, self-worth and with personal relationships. Also, playing out on a subconscious level, can create emotional manipulation with others.

Pluto is a very subtle and slow moving planet, thus reflecting the speed of its influence on a person’s life. Being in the soils of a chart, the dark roots grow into different parts of the individual, as one forms their identity and relationships to others. It can also accentuate the lack of power of childhood. Strongly associated with the 8th house, it effects intimacy, showing up during times of vulnerability. If one has found a safe and trusting space, it’s a place to find truth and heal. When unhinged, the manifestation speaks of its shadow side through manipulation, power struggles and sexual misconduct.

We go back to Venus, relationships and the things we find pleasurable. Which is likely intermingled in the traumas and skewed perspective of Kelly’s childhood and the experiences taken in. Again, the 8th house is the house of taboo, things buried to forget pain. However, suppression of any kind, will eventually want expression, even if it means in ways that are unsavoury. When not dealt with it finds a home in other parts of the individual, uninvited and imposing. It has the tendency to filter how one reacts to things and project what’s stimulated in the sub-conscience. The shadow manifestation is embodied until there is awareness and the distinction of current self and past experiences navigated.

Having no control, Kelly may seek comfort elsewhere, in unhealthier forms. The 8th house is where it all surfaces eventually, whether in years of secret actions, this is where it shows up. But being in the energy of Pluto, transformation is necessary, and release mandatory. When we resist Pluto urgings, it is done by force. There is no option with Pluto, ultimately we will have to surrender to the energy’s forceful whims.

Which eventually happened for Robert when Pluto started to transit his 8th house. R. Kelly’s history of criminal allegations and denial of those accusations has spanned 3 decades and has now caught up with him. Conveniently enough, Pluto is transiting his 8th house of buried secrets. The past is surfacing, the truth is being revealed. When he was first indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal abuse Feb 2019, Saturn, the enforcer, the law sat right on the cusp of his 8th house. He was followed with more indictments in the following months for child pornography charges and engaging in oral sex with minors. His desires and pleasures may have eluded him and others, thanks to his dark 12th and 8th house, helping him maintain a facade to the world. But things eventually come to the light. Evidently, for the successful star it was a slow process of reveal—one that has aligned him with his North Node (soul mission) in Taurus in the 12th house of hidden and isolated things. This time in confinement for the apparent misdeeds he’s caused others. The 12th house is also known for its isolation, symbolic of prisons. A karmic house, a house of reckoning and paying your karmic debt, eventually. It is the place that holds all the misdemeanours caused to others. In that, if on your way to the height of your life, in the journey of your success, you’ve misused your power, this is where it resides to be confronted and judged.

The Sun is what we develop, the energy we grow into as we mature.  His own development has had him detach further from reality, his secrets and his pain, a reaction from the turmoils of his childhood. A response that has veiled his life and those in it in the thickness of the shadows that lurk from that past. The layers of his rigid ways and beliefs, influenced the affinities of his sensitive, dark houses. Usually, we look to more neutral, mutable energy to balance out strong fixed signs. Having weakened native planets creates great challenges to tap into their higher vibrations.  His Moon being greatly afflicted, Mars in detriment and most importantly Mercury, his ruler planet strained in energy.

It’s hard to say the true inner workings of the R&B star, but according to his chart he has the propensity to ride the darker side. Pluto having a say in the darker parts of our lives, it doesn’t matter who you are, no amount of money or power can immune you to his will. You have to deal with him one way or another. Kelly will be tried on May 2020. Saturn is sitting deep in his 8th house, along with Pluto. Whether he is found guilty or not, he has been given a divine opportunity to finally transform and release the energy of the past through the contract of his soul mission in Taurus, in his 12th house. Jupiter will be joining Saturn and Pluto in his 8th house soon, helping Kelly to re-establish, restructure this area of his life and finally heal from the traumas of his past. Will his journey have been a fool’s errand or one that has turned into wisdom?
