Venus in Astrology: The Choices We Make
Venus in astrology is our values, self-worth and what we love.

Through our natal Venus, we continually make choices to attain what we want. As the second celestial body closest to the Sun, Venus sits within the Earth’s orbit. By understanding Venus’ layered qualities, we build our values and self-worth. Part of our personal output, it is the choices we make that drive our Mars energy into action (directly outside the Earth’s orbit) to widen our experiences, define our moral codes (Jupiter), build wealth and establish ourselves(Saturn).
Venus herself is the embodiment of the Earth, our five earthly senses, and our relationship with the material world. She represents our personal creative expression of life’s pleasures and the abundance we are given on this earth plane. This speaks of Taurus, our values, the tangible and tactile, a sign governed by the sensual planet. Venus also rules Libra, the sign of partnerships and an energy that governs her abstract qualities. The Libra Venus is the more objective side of Venus that seeks to create balance and grace and refine taste through aesthetic concepts.
Our adolescent years, and when we develop our Venus
Within the odyssey of human life, we learn and start to develop our Venus qualities at the age between 14-24. Considering our adolescent years, it is generally when we initiate personal values outside our familial setting through our choices within personal relationships and social spheres. For most of us, it is when we enter highschool, where we gravitate towards like-minded peers and start to prioritize and discern through extra-circular activities. A highly hormonal stage, it is also a time when we fall in love for the first time. The puppy love phase is when we will likely experience our first heartbreak.
Venus in astrology is what we’re attracted to and how we attract others, which is coloured by each element’s unique charm and beauty. A fire Venus is forward and creative in approach. Her confident and expressive light attracts others. While the airy Venus can charm with wit and intellect, the energy loves the stimulation of interaction. The watery Venus will want depth in another and make intuitive choices. This is an energy that attracts others with compassion, passion and sensitivity. The Earth Venus seduces through physical contact and material gifts and is grounded in practical reality.
Evolving from the first years of our adolescence to our 20s, the Venus choices we make create our sense of values. Generally, the time we are no longer under our parent’s care, our attitudes towards money become a focus during our first few years into adulthood. We are tasting true independence by choosing how we want to create and spend money.
Wherever Venus sits natally in our personal chart will accentuate her Venusian energy. The part of life where we will seek Venusian enjoyment. The earth house Venus is concerned with material and practical matters. Meanwhile, Venus in a watery abode is focused on security and personal settings. Airy Venusian types will value education and spend money on social interactions and experiences. The active fire houses build on values involving self-identity and their image, broadening their identity and experiences.
The House in which we find Venus can also indicate where luck and love is found. The 1st House Venus is lucky in physical attributes. This is the beautiful Aphrodite in physical form. Occupying the 2nd House, Venus here will find luck in material resources and sensual pleasures. While the 3rd house Venus can find love seamlessly in their immediate environment, it also has loving relations with neighbours and siblings.
We learn to understand what we like and dislike, connecting our choices to our sense of self to create our values, which helps build our confidence to find our purpose and shine our own light onto the world.
