Capricorn in Astrology: The Architect

Capricorn in Astrology symbolizes the climb up to the top, the structures and parts that make for the accomplishments

There is great pride in the Capricorn energy. It’s not the proud creative self-identity badge a Leo wears; rather, it has more to do with how far they can go, how much they can do, their goals and achievements. As the most ambitious sign in the zodiac belt, it’s no surprise Caps feel they can do anything better than anyone. Though the Aries’ natural competitive streak may be toe-to-toe with the mountain goat, the energy creates the plans builds, prioritizes and commits until it reaches the goal.

Capricorn in Astrology is the Architect Archetype.

Initiative, detail-oriented with necessary blueprints, like Tetris work–sizing, trouble-shooting, a Capricorn anticipates problems and can carry on with great persistence.

But with pieces in place—usually cemented with structures in mind and goals projected, it’s easy to lose spontaneity, creativity or generally a bit of fun as a Capricorn type. The disconnect comes with a concentrated focus on reaching the top. Once up there, having the affinity for the seat of power and leadership, the Capricorn enjoys its high place. However, being at the top can give the energy a detached view. Well away from the interactions of those below can also cause loneliness and foster the biggest fear for a Capricorn, the feeling of inadequacy and failure.   

Ruled by Saturn, it’s an ambitious seat that is comfortable setting the rules, taking control and where one is incline to lean on and defend traditions. Capricorn energy symbolizes the governing body, functioning to establish order, stability and reliability. Based solely on the practical and operating through the tangible, the energy can be narrowed and serious.

The motto for Capricorns is “I use” and what they use, they generally use with precision and effectiveness. Result-oriented, they trust in the tried and true, in what has passed the test of time. They tend to see a threat in the novelty, for there is potential chaos in the unknown, a result which can leave little room for creativity.

Consider the modern architect. In addition to logistics, functionality and technical skills, they consider the dynamic flow within and without the environment symbiotic to their design.

Two Franks come to mind. Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry—both American Modernist Architects.

Wright designed homes in harmony with humanity and the exterior landscape, which he called organic architecture. Gehry, with his unconventional techniques, through the Deconstructivist style, his work is free form and visually fluid. Some of his public buildings look to be dancing! He resisted being bound either by critical acceptance or his success in order to stay true to himself. Consequently, each architect and their structures are considered works of art, inspiring creative spirit and life.

Preoccupied by form and matter, the Capricorn energy can become distant from instinct or human emotion. An emotional disconnect from self, thus from others. Being on the opposite spectrum of Cancer, Cap energy can seem cold and uncaring. However, being out of touch with what is naturally part of them can bring about the feared inadequacy. The fear of failure stems from the desire to be the best and most effective in everything. Which is why Caps can be uneasy with feelings, or hide them all together, behind obligation and duty.

It can get lonely at the top.

The innate responsibility to duty, exterior obligation and ambition can suppress their internal world, along with the creativity and instinct that come with emotional wealth and health. The inner world is sacrificed for duty and ambition.

The higher Capricorn vibe leads with rules and establishes solid values, yet the job of the Architect gives equal priority to the surrounding environment and those who live in it. The two Franks gave their respective structures a human touch, established works that embodied physical senses, an animist energy. What’s inside the walls are just as important and worth nurturing as the structure itself. To account for it sometimes means balancing reason with what feels right.
