I’ve been studying, reading and practicing Astrology for over 20 years now. Astrology is as complex as us human beings. So, it’s hard for me to deduce a person down to just one sign or element. Therefore, if you’re as interested in the intricate nature of the human condition through the lens of astrology while dating, keep reading. It is written as a guide to each signs’ energy and the connection to other key astrological components relevant to the dating scene.
In other words, you are not going to know a person, their needs, desires and hang-ups through just one sign, but you can get further insight into their personality by looking at the dynamics between planets and signs, the house it sits in and the other aspects involved. The houses and aspects signify a deeper layer of the personality, which we will only skim through for sake of keeping the complicated as uncomplicated as possible.
Rising Sign
Our Rising position is the point of contact to the person’s inner layer of self. This is what we display to another, the immediate impression we give and receive. Therefore, what we show on our first date reflects the sign at our Ascendant or cusp of the first house.
Depending on the tone of the date, the comfort level, our Sun sign qualities is usually the layer we reveal next. Traits that are more personal than the rising sign, but less personal than our Moon Sign. We share our goals and dreams through our Sun sign qualities. It is what answers the vocation questions. (“What do you do…What type of work are you in? “)
Moon Sign
When we get to the Moon, it’s usually because we have found a deeper level of connection with another. There is a comfort between each other. This is when we get more personal and share intimate details of our lives. Usually, it is when we get the green light and start to feel safe around the person, enough to show our feelings for them, sometimes even our vulnerabilities.
Mars Sign
Generally speaking—of course depending on many factors in their personal chart this can be expressed in varying levels—initially, men tend to express their Mars personality. Knowing a man’s Mars can help you understand what he is attracted to sexually, what he desires and how he acts on it. However, being the carnal, instinctual part of each of us, it is also important for the woman. The sign expressing Mars energy reveals her masculine nature and her level of aggression.
Jupiter Sign
Jupiter is also a significant factor in getting to know your person. The qualities of Jupiter is thought to be the ideal husband for a woman. However, generally speaking, it can summarize someone’s belief system. Ideally, you want to have similar outlooks, a compatible overall mission.
Venus Sign
Venus in our chart reflects our value system as well, but more on an internal preference level. It can tell us what the person likes and dislikes. For a man, his Venus sign shows what type of woman he is attracted to. For a woman, it reflects her beauty and how she expresses it, what she finds attractive.
Dating The Zodiac Signs:

What to Generally Expect For Each Sign
Aries
Let’s not kid ourselves here, it will all be about them, if not at first impression, that selfish Aries energy is bound to come out! Also, as the most independent sign in the zodiac, the energy requires free expression and will hardly tolerate being hampered by rules, details or slow conversation. It is a dynamic energy, therefore, can easily be turned off by mundane talk. Give them a challenge, and they will stick around.
Taurus
A more steady sign compared to its Aries neighbour in the zodiac belt, Taureans like to take things slow. Their zen energy can be comforting if you like to pace the initial stages of dating. Sensual affection is their thing and a Taurus will express this quicker than any other sign. Romance, candle light dinner with some good food and vino is a what can keep this Bull sign satisfied. It’s pupil dialates to dollar signs.
Gemini
This fickle energy may be hard to keep up with. Make sure you are equipped with quips and stimulating conversation. If you’re not, at least make sure you can keep up with their speedy mind. You can never be too sure if the Gemini energy is into you. One indicator however is if they start to mildly tease you. Gemini’s love banter and like a bit of innocent fun, even at your expense. Do not take yourself too seriously if you want to get involved with the fun-loving sign. Its curious nature means keeping things fresh.
Cancer
Very far and foreign from Gemini energy, Cancer would have to be the most sensitive sign. Pisces being right up there with them. They rule emotions, after all. When starting to date the Cancer, this may not be apparent if the Rising sign offsets their watery nature, which should be a blessing in disguise. But that disguise will not hold back its emotional flux long. The Cancer energy’s power is in its instinctual, emotive quality. A quality that tunes into your needs, providing a sense of warmth and nurturing.
Leo
There will always be a sense of confidence radiating out of the Leo energy. On what level depends on how well their Leonine nature was cultivated. A healthy balance is always attractive, but don’t be surprised if the confidence turns into hoarding centre for attention. Being in their light is natural for them. You will either be warmed by their energy or burnt to a crisp. It’s always good to stroke their ego once in a while. And with plenty of firey energy, doing activities, physical or creative will be a good way to keep their interest.
Virgo
If you’re into being looked after, and love the attention, you can get plenty of it from the Virgo energy. This is their way of getting to know you, by giving you the stage. This is also their analytical mind, sussing and sizing you up. A very judgmental sign, they are usually efficient and will make efforts to keep the date and other dates following flawless. They are pretty intellectual beings for earthy energy and will appreciate a bit of banter, just as much the Gemini, the other sign ruled by Mercury. But there is plenty they hold back. Give ‘em time and as soon as they let you in, you’ve got a loyal mate by your side.
Libra
You’ll get plenty of conversation from the Libra mate. Their intent is on voicing their opinion, but also balancing their own thoughts to what you contribute. Intellectual debates keep their fuel burning, while crass behaviour will give them reason to cut the date short. They’re known to push their ideas, but if they sense your uneasiness at any point, their graceful, diplomatic bent will cause them to back off a bit. Like the Taurus ruled by Venus, Libras love the finer things in life. Show them the classier, cultural side of town.
You’ll know a Scorpio Ascendant by the intense way they stare you down, their pessimistic lens of the world, yet the bravado they uphold. They are receptive and much is held back, while intensity oozes out of them. They can give off a subtle intensity or blast you with it. Whether it is in their silent demeanour or jarring inquisitive nature, you will feel their passionate nature. They carry a mysterious aura. This can either be alluring or frightening. If you’re naturally attracted to the unknown, you’re likely to be drawn in, mesmerized. Proceed at your own will. What door you open may start off dark, only to eventually stumble on bright rare gems. That, or own looming shadows.
Sagittarius
Just be you. That is your best bet with the Sagittarius energy. You are stimulating to them for the sole reason that you are the unknown yet to be explored. Keep things light with a sense of adventure. If you get put off by the truth or being called out, I’d consider thinking twice about getting involved with the Sagittarius. What is guaranteed about this sign is the spontaneity and the feel-good energy in which they often pride themselves. Don’t be afraid to show your quirky side. They may even get off from a fetish of yours.
Capricorn
Just as judgmental as its fellow earth sign Virgo, dating a Capricorn can feel like you are under a microscope. They will not only want to know your life story but the continuation, the outline of your next chapter of life. This sign is after all about planning, strategizing and reaching some form of success. Don’t be surprised if they expect that from you. Looking and acting your best will get them. There is a sense of tradition at the heart of this sign. Something to consider when getting involved with the Cap energy. Keep it classy and you should be fine.
Aquarius
If you sense a detachment with a mix of oddity, it is the Aquarius energy subtly expressing itself. This is a sign that could actually seem either dumbfounded or outright condescending. Either way, you’ll get plenty of silence or a barrage of ideas pouring out of them. Quite individualistic, any form of judgement can set them off. If you value an open mind, one that stretches beyond your own imagination — what some may even find absurd, this mate is for keepsakes. Oh, and this is the energy that observes how you treat the waiter.
Pisces
The energy will always feel elusive. The waters can be warm at times and then shock you with their coldness. It isn’t the coldness that comes from the Capricorn or Scorpio energy. It’s more of an uncertainty borderline insecurity from within the Pisces world that leaves you out in the cold. They are up for anything usually, to keep you happy and to keep the peace. It isn’t about what you do while with a Pisces, it’s how you can flow with them.
I’ll be exploring each sign and what to expect when dating them. Each week I will be posting a new sign! Stay tuned!
