Jupiter and Saturn Conjunct in Aquarius: Social Fabric Shifts December 21st 2020

Our world as we have witnessed in the last year has gone through major shake-ups with a pandemic impacting the collective in dramatic ways, hitting each of us personally on some level or another.  An effect that has created fear, limitations and restrictions. For most, causing distrust in bodies of authority and the messages spewed from media outlets. A disconnect beyond the physical, dividing us socially through opposing beliefs, for some of us, to those we once had close ties. The measure of damage, no doubt, rippling in the decade to unfold.  Challenging times like no other.

Astrologically speaking, the past events have been linked to the blended energies of social, outer planets. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn kicking off the drastic changes at the beginning of the year around January 12th, as Covid grew in people’s awareness and the truth of its impact on our lives. Shutting down the world a couple of months after when Saturn(government, restrictions) progressed into Aquarius(community) in March. The next few months were dominated by the triple conjunction that happened between Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn, the truth revealed the flaws and inequalities of the system. An outdated structure benefiting a few, long overdo in changes. In response, riots have flared, deep fears and anger permeating the air, in tense power struggles. An already explosive energy further aggravated by other notable transits from Uranus in Taurus and Mars in Aries. November became the bit of reprieve from the heated energy. Now the year ends with another major connection, the conjunction of all conjunctions as the event heralds the coming changes, promising to lead us out of the dismal year.

The cycle between Jupiter and Saturn Conjunction

Jupiter and Saturn will both be moving into the tribe sign Aquarius. Blending their quality of energy in air element after 240 years in earth signs. Jupiter takes a revolution of 12 years around the Sun, while Saturn takes a revolution of 30 years. Jupiter in its speed will bypass the sun once before meeting again with Saturn in another sign in the same element eight years later. It will take sixty years to make a complete trigon(the same three elements). Referred to as the TRANSFER OF THE TRANSIT in another element, the conjunction involves a cycle through each triplicity four times, before moving into another element. The unique, impactful event on the 21st of December trumping the previous conjunctions.

The evolution of the importance of the Saturn and Jupiter conjunction dates back to the Babylonian dynasties of Mesopotamia, before Greek astronomers created their tables of cosmic activities.  The study of the celestial sky progressed down the channels of history from one era to another, diverted in focus based on shifts in ruling empires. (Omens were once based on the planetary activity of Venus.) Revering the rest of the major planetary bodies in the following era, which established celestial coordinates, a more accurate analysis of planetary motion. At which point combined the main paradigms of science, religion and astrology at the time, particularly the Zoroastrian-Persian ideology. Theories and works that were found in the Book of Conjunctions, belonging to volumes of astrological work written by an elite Persian astrologer and astronomer named Abu Ma’shar. His works were considered the most influential to Islamic astrology at the time. Important events were linked to the Jupiter and Saturn conjunction, namely the coming of two prophets Muhammad and Christ. However, 15 centuries later, it was Johannes Kepler, the Modern Father of Astronomy and a brilliant astrologer, that studied the reoccurring patterns of conjunction for Jupiter and Saturn. He discovered that the Star of Bethlehem aligned with Jupiter and Saturn conjunction in Pisces.

The conjunction today happening in 0 degrees of Aquarius

It takes 960 years for Jupiter and Saturn to complete its cycle through the four elements, making it a big deal when it happens in the sign of Aries. Referred to as the grand conjunction, a transfer from water to fire element. Though historically less significant, the transfer in transit from earth to air element will no less be a great impact of change to our social fabric. In fact, quite literally since Aquarius rules social circles and community.

The impact of the last year forcing us to think ahead, to question what a stable future means for a globalized world. It is a move forward for the collective, but not without the growing pains and awkward adjustments. Saturn is further out from the sun, and rules the energy of Aquarius, making it more potent than Jupiter. Jupiter being second in command will expand what Saturn symbolizes, compliance, restrictions and limitations. In the next two years current bodies of power will place great efforts in seizing control, instilling fear—already permeating on a collective level.

Aquarius versus Capricorn in Saturn

Capricorn inclined to order and hierarchy, is about compliance, a view point that is set on practical reality. 2020 was dominated by the energy of Capricorn. Just as logical, the Aquarius sign is also systematic and moves with an objective view point in mind. Both ruled by disciplined Saturn, Capricorn sticks with the tried and true, while Aquarius looks forward, sees beyond limitations with intelligence, knowing what is possible and the challenges that come with.

Being the Archetype of the visionary and rebel, the Aquarian goals are framed with a plan in mind, breaking free from the confines of obligation and tradition with purpose, lead by spirit of authenticity. The collective energy now moving into the sign of Aquarius. This will especially be food for thought when Saturn comes into a square with Uranus in Taurus, causing major tension in the collective scene starting in January 2021, lasting until end of 2022! A two year revolt from old structures into new value systems.

Changes can be made on personal levels, where we have the control to decrease the fear and uncertainty not only by aligning with the higher frequencies of Aquarius, but by also balancing it with the confidence, expansion and principles of Jupiter. Jupiter flows in pure abundance, optimism and wisdom. Similar to the sign Aquarius, it keeps an open-mind, but is directed by its own personal truth. Jupiter in Aquarius can be the light which can continue to burn hope, faith in what we do, in ourselves and in others. For most of 2021, we can use Jupiter in Aquarius to jump into new territory, explore new paradigms, envision alternate roads that were once thought to be impossible. However, the energy combined with Saturn is the necessary reality check. To back idealism and optimism with facts and experience.  A reminder to leap into new horizons with discipline and intentions. A balancing act we can practice most of 2021.

Full blown destruction can be avoided, with preemptive action mentioned above. With the karmic planet Saturn involved, actions should be carefully heeded, as the mess created now, the bridges burnt today can be of ill consequences later.  Avoid the full annihilation of the Tarot Tower Card through awareness and by coursing down a more authentic path. Get your valuables out, pack up what is needed for the future and leave the rest behind. For a new dawn is coming, heralding major changes to all, but one we can personally curate through an envisioned future, grounded by lessons of the past, and guided by the wisdom to contribute in our own unique ways to better the new world.
