The 6th House in Astrology: Our Improved Selves

The 6th House in Astrology: Our daily grind, health habits and how we maintain the flow of life.

The 6th House in Astrology

After carving out our unique talents, enjoying life and frolicking in a bit of romance in the 5th House, it’s time to make use, improve our creative self-identity, get back to the grind and prioritize different parts of our life in the 6th House.

As the most underrated House, the 6th doesn’t get as much love as the rest of the chart and, with good reason, being the house of mundane things, like daily tasks and routines or habits we have with our health. However, life could fall apart without the order of the 6th House. It’s the House we look at to avoid chaos and keep a nice flow to our busy lives.

Associated with the sign Virgo is the House of balance, where we learn to create order and routines to become more efficient and effective.

“It is a basic fact of existence that life has to be lived within boundaries.” Howard Sasportas

The creative 5th House is naturally associated with Leo, where our desires and ego can flare out of control, and imagination requires a framework and purpose. In the 5th House, we discover our unique selves and express it with confidence and style. But what good is it if we don’t make use of our talents in the real world? The 6th House is where we put creativity into practice and hone our skills to give it material value. In the House of Virgo, we put our heads down, test “the product,” and create necessary boundaries to focus on what works and what is essential.

This then becomes integrated into parts of our daily work and life routine. What is worth our time and effort is the stuff of the 6th House. Part of our daily task is to create order, where we return to reality after a bit of fun and play. A balanced 6th House  aligns us to our goals and work that generates money to have fun once again. The limits we set and priorities listed also keep that fun in check with health routines. It is also where we can create healthy boundaries and structures within our everyday relationships. The sign at the cusp gives one layer to how we organize, what we improve on, how we work and create boundaries.

An earthy Virgo will be quite efficient here in its own house, accelerating in the qualities of the 6th and making the House a strong point in life. Tasks will likely be delegated reasonably, while health routines are planned with improved results in mind. Watery Scorpio here will do things consciously, obsessively and routines will be defined by deep emotions.

Airy Libra might be urged by beauty and balance in their everyday environment and relationships. Ideal work will likely be of an intellectual kind. A Sagittarius cusp may have difficulty thriving in routine but will undoubtedly need an active lifestyle by taking on a sport of sort. An open-minded Sag can stretch boundaries in a work environment, while creative work will keep the fire sign in flow.

With natal planets involved, the 6th House is given more focus and energy. Planets show our actions and how we go about doing the work we do. Energetic Mars means physical work is necessary, or at the least, the person will need a physical health routine or a recreational outlet. Structured Saturn will thrive on a schedule, plan work with precision and care. Saturn in the 6th House shows sticking to routines and health habits for years.

As the area of health, and therefore illness, the planets can also indicate what disorders or diseases we are prone to while also showing the cause of illness. Neptune can indicate addictions. The origins of the disease can be vague with the elusive planet in the 6th. Mercury can affect the lungs and nervous system. The cause can be an overuse of the physical body, like the hands. The Sun here can point to heart problems caused by poor diet.

Those with planets activating the 6th House normally require more focus and management on health and routine.  Boundaries become more important to these natives.

Connections to Houses:

Every house is integral to the other, but certain connections are more impactful. The 3rd House is a good indication of how the native will relate to others in the 6th House. The 3rd House is the house of siblings and the first social house; any unworked traumas and shadows can find their way into our relations with our co-workers. It can show how competitive or how graceful we are. Generally, the connection between the two Houses can reveal the position we develop among our work peers, whether we lead, speak up or just follow what we’re told.

In the 6th House, what we defined and improved on created the best version of who we are, which we can share with others in the 7th House of relationships.
