The South Node in Libra, Venus and How it Can Help Aging Women

The South Node in Libra, Venus and Aging 40s WomenKey Elements:

  • Venus and Women
  • What to Watch Out For
  • Houses and Signs

“When we normalize what healthy aging looks like, we become better advocates of ourselves and other women.” Psychology Today

This post was inspired by a Psychology Today article about 40-something women conflicted between the wisdom gained and feeling internally at odds about physical beauty, our changing bodies, saggy skin and aging lines–a notion that divides us from the youth we once were.

How does the Libra South Node and Venus, Uranus in Taurus—also a Venus-ruled sign–apply to having a difficult transition or feeling at odds with our aging 40-something skin?  (which, ultimately, gives better lift-off to your Aries North Node part of the chart.

What are the Nodes?

Libra South Node, Venus and Aging 40s Women

1)Cosmic Imaginary line

The North and South Nodes are not cosmic bodies in space but rather orbital points in the sky where the Sun and Moon meet relative to the Earth’s orbit. The upward motion would be the North Node sign, and the downward motion is the South Node sign. For a deeper dive, go here.

2)Spiritual Mission

Spiritually speaking, the Nodes are axis points in our natal charts that indicate how we can rebalance our energy. The North Node represents a spiritual mission to spiral us into our evolution. The sign it is in tells us the qualities that we are meant to develop. The opposite South Node is what we have mastered in previous incarnations. It is an axis that informs the other.

The SN is an energy we are familiar with and is of least resistance and ultimate comfort. With the support of our SN comforts and familiarity, we focus on our North Node to grow. We move towards our NN house position (functions of life) and energy (sign) to bring us back into equilibrium. Because it is unfamiliar territory, we often avoid or delay the path toward our NN mission.  With the NN at the helm, we use the energy of both signs of the NN and SN to help us navigate our spiritual mission.

Currently, the NN is in Aries with the SN in Libra. On a collective level, it moves us into new ways of expression, relating and operating. On a personal level, the emphasis and deemphasis turn into specific functions of life—all depending on where the Aries cusp, Mars, Venus and Libra are in your chart. Key Words To Remember

Libra — Relationship to self, others and the world, beauty, grace, harmony, balance, justice.

Aries — Self, individuality, self-expression, self-reliance, trailblazer, inspiration, autonomy.

Venus Focus

Since the SN is in Libra, a Venus-ruled sign, we are meant to shed away Venus themes in our lives, including themes in relationships, love, beauty, values and preferences we have.

“Being in our 40s is meant to liberate us from the superficial, societal expectations in the form of social media, beauty standards” Psychology Today.

…we all know the pressures attached to glorifying youth.

Women and Venus

Venus is our feminine beauty, how we are in relationships, what we like and enjoy. As women, Venus indicates what we find beautiful, how we express that physically and through preferences and bed pleasures (along with our Mars energy).

Attached to the Aries NN and the energies of Libra SN, the themes are about redefining beauty with current values and shedding what one deems no longer worthy. We can align our worth, what we value, and our current beauty standards with our own mature and evolving selves by assessing our Venus placements and Libra part of our charts.

Uranus in Taurus

Since Uranus entered Taurus in May 2018, it has been all about changes to our five senses and earthly makeup, a destruction of old values and our sense of pleasure. This part of our natal chart and life functions has gone through major flux and overhauls that have felt downright unstable. However, it has created more authenticity and autonomous expression.

Questions to reflect on

  • How can you accept yourself on a level that liberates you from unhealthy expectations?
  • What values do you uphold today?
  • How does that resonate with who you are and how can you become comfortable in your own skin?
What to Watch Out For

The SN Libra period can have you holding on to your preferences. Venus, in mythology, was a goddess who was used to getting what she wanted. She also got envious and vindictive when threatened by another’s beauty. In our lives, our own insecurities and inadequacies can rise by holding on to our preferences, past narratives, and outdated standards. There are certain expectations some of us have had about ourselves. Our Venus preferences can hold us back from becoming a new version of ourselves.

It reminds me of a Girls episode by HBO. It was about one of the main characters, Jessa, who took a gig as a nanny. The story follows her inappropriate interactions with the father’s children, having too intimate of conversations and meeting outside the home. It’s unclear how Jessa cut ties with the job, but it’s assumed she was let go. The wife later approached Jessa after realizing the family needed her more than a defunct husband/father. In the form of a twisted fairy godmother tale, the wife counselled Jessa. She called Jessa out and shared her thoughts. “You’re distracting yourself from who you want to be.”

We do this in our own lives by amplifying our Venusian likes and indulging in the distractions that describe our Venusian preferences.

The wife continues and says that people avoid embracing change because the road we’re currently on isn’t what we expected. Maybe it isn’t as glamorous as our Venusian expectations or simply not as comforting.

In the case of our conflicted older selves, we choose to stay stunted through the guise of distraction, self-pity, intimidation… etc.—easily convinced and warped into societal’s unhealthy expectations. Thus, we are unable to come to terms with our current aging selves and the youth we once knew.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Are you holding onto something outdated?
  • Are you holding onto a pleasure that was reality then but is now an illusion of how you want things to be?
  • How can you accept yourself on a level that liberates you from unhealthy standards?

By looking into your SN Libra location and Venus transit and natal placement, you get insight into your journey with beauty, self-worth, and current values. It will help you assert your femininity and what it looks like through a more mature viewpoint. It can show you where to shed old baggage and become the wise and self-possessed divine Goddess you are meant to be.
