Why Astrology?

There are many branches of astrology, each one approached in varying ways. Under the belief we are connected to the celestial sky, the fundamental principle involves our relationship to the planets and stars. What happens out there happens down here. This echoes the astrology maxim: “As above, so below.” The constellation of elements and the dynamics involved are decoded by the language of symbols, archetypes and metaphysics and calculated within an astrological chart.
A personal chart, or the natal chart, maps our earthly personality and soul print. A freeze frame of the cosmos the moment we took our first breath. The natal chart shows our personal relationship with each celestial body. It reveals personal challenges while also highlighting our potentials and blessings in life. The intention is to synthesize all of the elements of a birth chart into balance, starting from the inside out.

I follow Western Astrology, which is comprised of three main components:

*The 12 zodiac signs—the energy that plays out.
*The planets (2 luminaries+8 planets)—give meaning to the different facets of personality.
*The 12 houses—signify different areas of life.

Each group and individual element can be symbolized on two levels of existence and experience (on the earthly or on the spiritual, soulful level). They can be expressed on a spectrum, with each side having an opposite effect. In other words, the path laid out is determined by our choices.

Though the Sun sign is one of the most essential elements and is familiar to most people; it is only a drop in the ocean in the language of astrology. We are composed of all the signs, each speaking from different angles of life and accentuated on different levels, an emphasizing of energy varying from chart to chart.

For example: My Venus is in the deep sign of Scorpio(yikes), which falls in the 5th house of creativity and romance. I also resonate with the energy of Leo. Jupiter was in its roaring constellation when I was born. As a Gemini rising, my lens of the world is viewed through the energies of the inquisitive sign. I approach life bent on research and writing. My challenges lean toward intimate relationships (Venus Retrograde in Scorpio). On the flip, my gifts have always been in the creative, expressive fields and my love for astrology.
